DSJ4 Native Hill Editor - a hill editor with a live 3D preview
Hi everyone!
I’d like to show you a project I’ve been working on for the last week and a half, perhaps even two weeks. It’s a native hill editor for the DSJ4 game. The editor has been designed so that, in addition to the text editor itself, you have access to a preview feature which allows you to see in real time how a particular hill looks whilst you’re editing the text. You can also switch the hills appearance from winter to summer, as well as set it to night-time to see how it looks under artificial lighting.
Main features:
- Live preview, with winter and summer switched by a single key (Z).
- Profile editing: you drag profile points (terrain profiles too) with the mouse. The inrun and landing hill profiles are changed with parameter handles (K, P, L, U, angles etc.).
- Reference images: load a drawing or plan of a hill (PNG/JPG) and trace the profiles from it. There’s two-click scale calibration and pinning the image to a point, e.g. the takeoff edge.
- Object editing in 3D: selecting, moving (G), duplicating and mirrored copies; Element / Face / Vertex modes; snapping to vertices; moving by an exact value.
- Elements window: insert pillars, beams, railings, stairs and refx points without writing XML. You can also place them by clicking in the 3D view.
- Materials window: textures with thumbnails, colors from a color wheel, assigning a material to the selected elements.
- Landing hill lines: a list of lines, editing, and a line generator from A to B.
- Tree, audience and building areas: you draw and edit them with the mouse, and trees and audience are placed live exactly as in the game.
- Copies along a path and a stairs profile generator.
- Camera: free camera, saved views (F1–F9) and K / HS guide lines.
- XML editor: syntax highlighting, multiple cursors, find/replace, section folding, error checking.
- Two languages: Polish and English, chosen on the first start (later in View > Język / Language).

Installation: unzip and run DSJ4HillEditor.exe. The editor finds the game by itself, along with the hills in Documents\Deluxe Ski Jump 4\Custom Hills. All features and shortcuts are described in the Help menu.
